The Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union (IMATU), the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) have concluded the local government sector wage negotiations.
After a long and often intense negotiation process the parties have reached an amicable multi-year wage agreement without resorting to either dispute processes or industrial action.
“This multi-year wage agreement is an example of what can be achieved when parties are committed to achieving a swift and amicable outcome. IMATU is looking forward to focussing on creating an environment which promotes social transformation through sustainable Local Government,” concluded IMATU General Secretary, Johan Koen.
